Conventions & Tournaments Team: They plan to put a special emphasis on working with the golf course management company to promote and attract small conventions and travel groups to Percy Quin. Information or coupons (with Chamber stamp on back) will be put in packets the Chamber will place in hotels and Percy Quin or given out from the Chamber office. Downtown Development Team: It is gathering information andor discount coupons from Chamber retail members promoting their businesses. This team handled the ad sales of the Pike County maps distributed from the Chamber office. Seminars & Promoting Team: It developed brochures which are distributed from all the Welcome Centers coming into the state and from the Chamber office. It hopes to foster entrepre-neurship in the minority community. A new committee has been established under this team, the Minority Business Development Committee. Small Business Development Team: Several seminars of interest to retailers have been held. An upcoming membership event will be June 14. Cultural Development Team: They are working with the Pike County Arts Council. Community Appearance Team: Since the Chamber team and the City's Beautification Committee were overlapping, they are working with the City's Committee. The Howdycrats also plan the Newcomers Reception each year. Howdycrats: They plan and coordinate the Miss Hospitality contest each year and also coordinate the Business After Hours. "Pike County - The Way to Go Show" Team: This team produces weekly community affairs programs promoting Pike County at 6:30 p.m. Crime Prevention Team: The Chamber and Rotary have partnered to initiate the CrimeStoppers program, and other crime prevention measures are being pursued. It was decided to continue the communication with a quarterly Council of Governments meeting. The purpose was to encourage communication between officials of the county and different municipalities. Government Relations Team: Recently completed was a Community Elected Officials Program. The topic was "Decentralizing Education." The Chamber has agreed to partner with McComb Public Schools in a Service Learning Program and hopes to start a teachers appreciation program in the near future. Education Development Team: Recently held was a teleconference which had attendees from all the local schools. Leadership Development Team: Uplift, an intense leadership training program, is in its fourth year. Ambassadors Team: There currently are 20 ambassadors or "red coats." As the public relations arm of the Chamber, the ambas- QJffiaiHl sadors attend area events and recruit new members. Membership Team: To date there are 430 voting members, and efforts are under way to recruit more. Here are some highlights: Quarters Team: The boards of both the Chamber and the Pike County Economic Development District recently approved the city's proposal for the ChamberDistrict to move it's office to the Depot after it is renovated. Here's an update on Chamber work Vicky Webb, president of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, gave an update on Chamber activities in a speech to the McComb Rotary Club.
